Club Championships – Running

Within Calne Smartt we hold our own race league, based around local park runs and locally organized races, many of    which feature in the Wiltshire road race and off road race leagues. At the end of the season we give awards for the first second and third places in men’s and women’s categories

The aim is to have as many of the club runners turn up to the events and show Calne SMaRTT as an enthusiastic and active club.

Calne SMaRTT have enjoyed good consistent results in the Wiltshire Road Race and Off Road Race Leagues in recent years. Details of races can be found on the Wiltshire Athletics Association webpage

The races selected for this years club championship can be found on our results page, along with the club championships league table.

Running Health & Safety

As you may be aware there have been incidents where runners have been taken ill during training.  REMEMBER – if you feel ill when training, or whilst competing then stop and seek help and advice. It is much better to be well for the next race than face a long lay-off by pushing through the extra mile or to gain a few seconds.  In addition,  we recommend that you always carry identification when training alone.

Running Safety – Personal Music Systems & Visibility

Some races will disqualify competitors who wear personal music players during the run – it most definitely affects your ability to hear traffic and can be extremely dangerous whilst out on the roads. If you like to have music to run to then we recommend that you use only one earpiece or buy sports headphones which allow outside noise to be heard as well. Remember that for Tri events using phones, personal music systems or other devices at any time in the event will lead to disqualification.

During the dark months be seen – wear reflective jackets/bibs hats etc or better still get a small clip on cycle light which shows up a long way and will not affect your performance.
